Why Blog?

Why do people blog?

The answer to that question is as varied as the proliferation of blogs currently on the Internet.

Quite simply put, a weblog has taken the place of hand-written diaries and journals that were so common decades and centuries ago.

A blog is the modern way to express yourself, promote your business, advocate your philosophies, share your views on life, music, art, health, spirituality and religion, politics and entertainment, or any numbers of subjects.

Your online journal can connect you with family and friends, be your ‘15 minutes of fame’ outlet, offer useful information to your readers, highlight your views on current news and happenings, or even build an online business.

The ‘faces’ of a blog are equally varied.  Your views, etc. can be presented through text, photos, audio, or video.  You can use commentaries, essays, poetry, stories, quotations, or just ideas that make you (and your readers hopefully) go hmmm!

If your family is scattered across great distances, a blog will bridge the gap and share special moments in life between grandparents and grandchildren, sisters and brothers, aunts and uncles, or even very distant cousins.

Enhance your business relationships with regular blog updates highlighting new products or information on the best use of older items.  You can even use multimedia presentations – a picture that is worth a thousand words is a great way to acknowledge that your customers are busy people with little time to spend reading dense pages of information.

Whether you blog for personal or business reasons, keep in mind your readers’ needs as well as your own.  Save the self-indulgence for more private musings and remember that your online immoderations can come back to haunt you.

So, weigh your words carefully, offer worthwhile content, don’t be hasty, and be of sound mind when you blog.
